This volleyball season started on their first scrimmage on Aug. 17 at Liberty High School. This season JV has 10 freshmen and 4 sophomores. Last year the varsity team lost 5 of their most talented players: seniors Nala Shearer, Maddie Dahl, Sophia Perlozzo, Sophie Vaught and McKenzie Burch.
Some of the players said the way that they got prepared for the season is by having a lot of practices and working on skills. “Our team isn’t the strongest on blocking and a lot of defense but we still have a lot to work on to become better as a team and be more prepared for playing against other teams,” said Sophomore Alysa McNeil.
The players reflected on how they could improve after their game against Parry McCluer on August 27.
“The volleyball game went well but we did well by communicating and working as a team, we played fairly well against PM ,we were more collective and were all over the place but also both jv and varsity were kind of cocky when going into playing them which messed us up some,” said McNeil.
Sophomore Adrianna Grue plays on the varsity team.
“I think we were really cocky, and then we got into the game and we thought it wasn’t going to be easy as it was, when we got into the second set we started to play as a team,” said Grue.
Freshman Aubrey Wenger looks forward to building on the team’s progress.
“I’m looking forward to all of the games and improving mentally and physically as a team, we need to get more focused and more serious as a team,” said Wenger.
The team’s rematch against PM on Sept. 9 resulted in varsity winning 3-0 and JV 2-0.
