For the past four to five years pickleball has been popular in the older demographic. Most likely due to the low chance of injury. In addition, the equipment is usually not very expensive, you only need a racket and shoes which will cost 110$. But recently it has also spiked with the younger age groups. Social media has spread the craze of the laid-back sport. More young people seem to be playing more than ever. With that comes more demand to play. The Pickleball Club is created for students by the students.
Cate Wilson, Geneva Snyder, and Joe Vargas introduced a new club to students this year, and while other clubs like the Spikeball Club didn’t gain much traction, the Pickleball Club is receiving a lot of support.
They plan to meet up once or twice a month to play pickleball. However, they are currently facing some challenges with finding a secure place to play. Despite these challenges, despite these problems, they had their first successful event on 10/13 which was a Halloween costume event.
According to Snyder, they are planning a Halloween costume partner tournament, with potential rewards to motivate participation. This tournament will include both singles and doubles matches. Depending on the season, they plan to make the doubles matches more interesting by incorporating costumes and adding a fun twist to the usual pickleball games.
The club is still figuring out how often they will meet each month and when the activities will officially start. For more information, contact Cate Wilson, Geneva Snyder, or Joe Vargas. The support behind the Pickleball Club suggests it could become a popular and engaging addition to RCHS’s extracurricular activities.
