Swimmers are starting to get ready for this 2024-2025 season. The swimming team is known for having experienced swimmers, like Ali Pfaff who committed to Duke University, to continue swimming.
Junior Keagan Black has been swimming since he was little. He shared that it helps him get in shape and what he’s looking forward to this season.
“It’s really good to eat a lot of carbs. I have to oil up before games and shave my whole body, it helps me feel faster and it prevents chafing,” Black said. His stroke is the breaststroke. This form of swimming is when you are face down propelling yourself forward with momentum . Freshman Jacob Barney is in his first year as a Rockbridge swimmer but he’s been swimming his whole life. His dad made him and his brothers learn how to swim because it could help them and at some point it could save their lives or other people’s lives.
“My stroke is the 100 yard backstroke, it’s going to be my first time doing that stroke and I just wanted to have a little bit of a challenge,” Barney said.
Senior Spencer Pfaff is the 41st in Virginia for freestyle stroke. In the 2023-2024 season he won states. His stroke is freestyle. He recently had a swim meet at this meet he swam a 20.63 second 50yrd freestyle stroke at Greensboro. He qualified for the Virginia State Championship.
Senior Roman Stanley is in his 3rd year as a Wildcat swimmer. Fellow swimmer, Blane Stanley is one of his relatives and inspired him to do swimming.. He shares why he likes this sport.
“It’s not an expensive sport, like your suit can be expensive but it depends on all the accessories you buy,” Stanley said.
