Girls soccer has started preparing for their season. They have tryouts Feb. 24 and are currently doing pre-season workouts.The tryouts will be held at the soccer field at RCHS. Many of the players are working out and attending the pre-season workouts so they are fit for the season.
For senior Madeline Swisher who has been on the team for 5 years , she does extra work outside of pre-season.
“To prepare for the season, I’ve been going to the gym in my free time to lift weights and run on the treadmill. When I’ve been able to, I’ve also been going to the pre-season workouts that the coaches have been running,” said Swisher.
The team last year won 7 of their games, making it to regions for the first time. Girls soccer coach Daniel Wheeler expresses his excitement about going to Regionals.
“The season last year we went to Regionals which was the first time in a very long time for girls soccer here at Rockbridge,” said Wheeler.
There are going to be new things this season. A few new people are joining the team due to seniors leaving last year. There will also be new equipment. There will also be new moves that the team will practice to win their games.
Freshmen Lilly Johnson states what is different about this season.
“Something different this season is new people, the new soccer goals and the RCHS soccer field we will be getting, and getting new merch,” said Johnson.
For sophomore Clare Simon, her favorite part of soccer is to enjoy the experience.
“I’m really excited to meet the new people trying out and to help the program grow,” said Simon.
The girls soccer team is still getting to know each other and are working hard for tryouts. Their first game will be Friday April. 4 2025, the game will start at 7:00 and will be hosted at RCHS. Check the athletics website if you are interested in knowing more!
