NBA legend Stephen Curry became the first ever active U.S. major professional player to work at an administrative job with an NCAA team by accepting an assistant general manager position for the basketball programs at his alma mater, Davidson College, in North Carolina.
Curry played his first three college seasons at Davidson, giving up his Senior season to enter the 2009 NBA draft. Curry was drafted seventh overall to the Golden State Warriors, and he has stayed with the same team for his whole 16 season career.
Curry is hoping to provide leadership and mentorship to both the men’s and women’s Davidson basketball teams, using his college and professional hooping experience.
Along with accepting this position, Curry, his wife Ayesha Curry, and past Davidson supporters Erica, Matt, and Don Berman have agreed to start a multi-million dollar fund for the men’s and women’s basketball teams to provide for bettering the programs.
Curry will work alongside general manager Austin Buntz, and previously mentioned assistant general manager Matt Berman, who played three seasons of soccer at Davidson.
