As winter sports are wrapping up, the girls tennis team is preparing for their season. After losing a few seniors last year, they are ready to welcome in new teammates.
According to the Neighborhood Junior Tennis Program, a ladder in tennis is, “A system where you play matches against other members in your group in order to improve your ranking. It’s called a ladder because when you win, you ‘climb the ladder’ to the top.”

There are many seniors on the ladder this year, so the team is excited to make this a good last season for them. They are hoping to do more things together, and grow closer as a team. Senior Campbell Bond is excited for the season to start.
“This season I think that we will end up doing team building activities, like team dinners. I think it is beneficial for the team to be closer, because it will hopefully build morale and help us work better in doubles matches” Bond said.
Last year, the team won four games and lost ten. They are hoping to make a comeback with more practice this year. Hopefully with the possible addition of more members, they will gain some powerful new players.
Corinna Allen, junior on the tennis team, is looking forward to helping out newcomers.
“We’re going to work really hard,” Allen said. She is excited to help them learn different strategies with their plays, and especially improve their doubles.
There will not be strict tryouts for the girls tennis team. The season will begin Monday Feb. 24. Their first game will be Friday Mar. 21 against Parry McCluer.
