With spring sports around the corner, many teams are excited and preparing for their seasons. Boys lacrosse is especially excited and hopeful that they can finish with a better record than last year in part because of their new coach, Davey Jones.
Senior John Brooke, who has been on varsity since he was a freshman, describes why he is feeling good about the new season
“I’m extremely optimistic about this season, I’ve played under Coach Jones before, and he embodies exactly what I look for in a coach,” Brooke said.
Brooke continued to explain why he likes Coach Jones.
“His intense, high-tempo practices and high expectations for success will be incredibly beneficial for us. I’m confident his coaching will help us improve on last year’s record,” Brooke said.
Another member of the team, sophomore Dmirty Billias shares why he thinks the team will be good this season as well.
“I’m feeling pretty good, I’ve been practicing a lot, and with other people too, not just myself. I think with our new coach too we’ll be better this year,” Billias said
The team finished last season with a record of 7 wins and 8 losses, clutching a spot in the playoffs, but getting knocked out in the first round by Cave Spring. Junior Cole Peters shares why he believes they can do better in the playoffs this year.
“Hopefully this year we’ll do better in the playoffs. Last year the other team came back and beat us. I think this year we’ll do better if we work better as a team” Peters said.
They hope to improve on that this year and go further even fight for the district title. Their first game takes place on March 18, at Western Albemarle High School. For more information about the boys lacrosse team, follow or visit Rockbridge Athletics on Instagram.
