This past Wednesday, Aug. 26, the Rockbridge County girls and boys cross country teams traveled to Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville to compete in the Valley Cup Relays.
This was a relay race, meaning there are multiple teams with four runners on each team, and each runner runs two miles.
The boys team had relay teams placing in fifth, eighth, and fifteenth, while the girls had a team coming in at sixteenth.
When looking at individual times, the boys team had seven top twenty-five finishers (Tyler Ludtke, Trent Cash, Leif Guse, Sammy Eastwood, Oscar McClung, Lincoln Steele, and Grant Swenty), while the girls team had one (Reagan Imler).
Junior Tyler Ludtke had an excellent performance, finishing in a time of 10 minutes and 34 seconds. Ludtke placed fifth place.
“The meet went very well for our whole team. It was a good season opener and to see us get seven people in the top twenty-five for the boys and a top twenty-five finisher for the girls was an experience,” Ludtke said. Although we did not win, if it was scored like a normal cross county meet, we would have.”
The single top twenty five finisher for the girls team was freshman Reagan Imler, finishing in thirteenth place with a time of 13 minutes and 27 seconds.
“It went pretty well. The hills were tough but we pushed through and the team did well overall,” Imler said.
The Wildcats will return back to action on Sept. 6 at the Knights Crossing XC Invitational in Salem, Virginia.
