On Friday, Sept. 19, the varsity football team suffered a 28-21 home loss against the Little Giants of Waynesboro High School. Down by 21 points to start the second half, the ‘Cats rallied back and the comeback was close but just not enough to pull the win.
At the start of the game, the ‘Cats got on the score board quickly when senior quarterback Grayden Brown ran in for a touchdown, and senior Aiden Meyers made a good extra point attempt. After going up 7-0, the team quickly found themselves down 28-7 at the end of the first half.
However, in the second half, both the offense and defense got to work. On the offensive side of the ball, the ‘Cats scored 14 unanswered points, while the defense didn’t allow the Little Giants to put any points on the board.
There was still hope with under a minute remaining, but the hole the ‘Cats found themselves in was just too deep to dig out of. Much of the credit goes to the defense as they stepped up big time in the second half.
“The defense did a great job in the second half executing their assignments and playing within the fit of the defense. Shutting out the opponent in the second half is never easy, but our defense gave us a chance to be in the game down the stretch.” said head coach Zachary Rhodenizer.
The ‘Cats will look to win their first game this Friday, Sept. 26, at Stuarts Draft High School in Augusta County.
