On Monday, Sept. 20, the Wildcats golf team placed first out of nine teams in the Shenandoah Valley District Championship match. This course came with a lot of challenges, including many hazards and out of bounds.
The golf team had a very successful match, with the team shooting 322. Senior Harrison Tanner led the team with a score of 76, followed closely by sophomore Joseph Vargas shooting 78, senior Dean Fafatas with an 81, Davis Welsh shooting 87, and then Finbar Looney with a 104.
Joe Vargas speaks about how he approached the district championship match.
“I walked in and I was nervous at first, but I realized that I had to stay calm and play my own game,” Vargas said.
This approach led him to have an impressive match and take second place on the team. Next Monday, golf will go to the regional championship match at Spotswood Country Club, and we hope to move past that to the states.
