The 2022 Winter Olympics were held in Beijing, China and occurred Feb. 4 through 20. Team USA finished in fourth, with Norway in first, Germany in second, and China in third. Team USA won eight gold medals, ten silver medals, and seven bronze medals.

Our gold medalists include Lindsey Jacobellis in women’s snowboard cross, Nathan Chen in men’s singles figure skating, Ashley Caldwell, Christopher Lillis, Justin Schoenefeld in mixed team aerials skiing, Chloe Kim in women’s snowboarding halfpipe, Nick Baumgartner, Lindsey Jacobellis in mixed team snowboard cross, Erin Jackson in women’s 500m speed skating, Kallie Humphries in women’s monobob bobsled, and Alex Hall in men’s slopestyle skiing.

US Silver medalists included Jaelin Kauf in women’s moguls, Julia Marino in women’s snowboarding slopestyle, Evan Bates, Karen Chen, Nathan Chen, Madison Chock, Zachary Donahue, Brandon Frazier, Madison Hubbell, Alexa Knierm, Vincent Zhou figure skating team event, Ryan Cochran-Siegle in men’s super-G, Colby Stevenson in men’s big air, Elana Meyers Taylor in women’s monobob bobsled, Nick Goepper in men’s slopestyle skiing, Team USA women’s ice hockey, and David Wise in men’s skiing halfpipe, Megan Nick in women’s aerials skiing, 

Finally our bronze medalists were Jessie Diggins in women’s sprint cross country skiing, Madison Hubbell in Ice dance, Ethan Cepuran, Casey Dawson, Emery Lehman, Joey Mantia in men’s speed skating team pursuit, Brittany Bowe in women’s 1,000m speed skating, Sylvia Hoffman, Elana Meyers Taylor in two-woman bobsled, and  Alex Ferreira in men’s skiing halfpipe.

RCHS students were interviewed about whether or not they watched the winter olympics and if so, what their favorite event to watch was. 

Malcolm Kosmas responded, “Yeah, I watched the Olympics, my favorite event was probably skiing.” 

The Winter Olympics consists of six different skiing events: downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super-G, combined, and mixed team parallel slalom. 

Megan Timmes said, “ My favorite was Figure skating.” 

Andrew Brannon explained, “I enjoyed watching ice skating, it is very fun to watch because of the different types of dances and the techniques they use.”
