The RCHS Academic Team hosted the district match on Jan. 23 after a victorious regular season. The Wildcats, split into five different teams, went 14-1 during the match and the ‘A’ repeated as district champs against Spotswood, Turner Ashby, Broadway, and Harrisonburg.

The ‘A’ Team consisted of seniors Ryan Squire and Saara Basu, junior Jesse Humston, and sophomore Nic Faulds. They went undefeated during the regular season while defending their state title in 2022. The ‘A’ Team will be moving on to compete in the regional competition, and the winner will compete at the state championship.

Basu is proud of her team’s work this season and hopes to keep the momentum as they move on to regions.

“We did a great job working together and had fun with our whole team to make for a strong last meet,” said Basu
