Samantha Sunshine is a first-year math teacher at Rockbridge County High School and is serving as the replacement of former math teacher Patricia Lillaheart. Although most math teachers teach on the second floor of the school, Sunshine teaches in the T hallway in one of the computer labs. Sunshine teaches Geometry, Algebra II and Agebraic Functions and Data Analysis (AFDA).
“I am from Blacksburg, Virginia and I have been in Rockbridge for about one month…I really like the area and it’s not too far from where I’m from,” said Sunshine.
“I had some really great math teachers growing up and I want to help students enjoy math more,” said Sunshine.”
Sunshine is one of many teachers at Rockbridge to fill the position of both teacher and coach. Some other first-year teachers taking on the role as a coach include, Mark Poston and Amanda McCoy, who both work in the special education department. Sunshine and McCoy are both volleyball coaches, with McCoy as head coach and Sunshine as an assistant coach.
“I played volleyball and ran track in college at West Virginia Wesleyan College.”
After playing volleyball for four years, Sunshine is now using her playing experience to coach.
