Every year, the RCHS Latin Club attends the Latin Convention in Richmond, Virginia. Latin Con is an engaging event for people interested in Latin and is hosted from Nov. 20-21.  There are different creative and academic activities, a 40 minute lecture in Latin, and a toga banquet.  There are different types of competitive, creative, and social activities for people of all interests to enjoy.

Dr. Patrick Bradley is the sponsor of the Latin club, and is looking forward to Latin con.  “It’s going to be the biggest group we’ve ever had, about two dozen students,” said Bradley.  Every year at Latin Con there’s a toga banquet.  “You have to wear a toga to attend, so I’m gonna wear purple, for royalty,” said Bradley.

Sophomore Liam Courtney-Collins is a member of the RCHS Latin Club, this year will be his second time attending Latin Con.

“I had a lot of fun last year, just being in the center and seeing all the different things going on, and the tests were also fun to do as well,” said Courtney-Collins.  Courtney-Collins continued by saying, “It’s going to be two days this year, so I’m looking forward to doing twice as many activities.”

Courtney-Collins also has a toga in mind for the banquet.

“The plan is to just put something plain on the bottom, to not distract from the toga-ness, and to make it stand out,” said Courtney-Collins.

Latin Club meets Wednesday mornings before school in Dr. Bradley’s room (207).  Students interested in joining can email him at [email protected].
