The 11th annual Rock the Ribbon tournament was hosted on Jan 24 in the RCHS gym. This tournament raises money for the American Cancer Society. The two day basketball tournament brought teams from across Virginia, such as Stuart Hall, Oak Hill Academy, and Jefferson Forest.
Athletic Director Adam Haynes helped to schedule and oversee Saturday’s event.
“Travis Patterson is able to get teams and organize the tournament. …Something neat we get to do is hold a game during the school day for students to attend. This year the girls played..this game helps bring notoriety to our basketball team,” said Haynes.
The Lady Wildcats kicked off the tournament facing Roanoke Catholic, defeating the Celtics with a final score of 60-26.
Senior shooting guard Emma Clark was named MVP of the game receiving a ring and Chick-fil-A gift card.
“It was very rewarding getting to be a senior and play in front of the school,” said Clark.
Friday evening the boys took the court facing Stuart Hall with a score of 33-72.
Senior forward Sam Ballsteadt was named most valuable player of the game scoring six points for the Wildcats.
“It was such a fun experience to be able to play in this tournament, especially raising awareness for cancer,” said Ballstaedt.
This annual event is a highlight of each year, and continues to bring fun and excitement to Rockbridge County.
