Girls basketball has made major progress from last year to now. They lost 12 games but were able to win 11 making them eligible for regions. Advancing to regions is a big deal for the Wildcats considering they haven’t had this big of a winning streak in over 20 years. Last year the Wildcats had a record of 2-20. Since the team has lost a lot of players from last year to now, it’s impressive to see this big of improvement. Junior Bella Dorey talked about why she feels last year wasn’t as good of a year for the wildcats.
“Our team chemistry has gotten a lot better this year. Last year we didn’t know each other as well, so it was harder to connect on the court,” Dorey said
Because of the new bonding and connection, it has allowed these players to improve not only individually, But also as a functioning team. Senior captain Emma Clark talks on why this year was better for the wildcats.
“We realized if we want to be good, we have to work hard and as a team.” Clark said.
On Feb. 21s, the Wildcats played Alleghany, which was the first game of Regions. The Wildcats played well, keeping the score relatively even for most of the game. Sadly, in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats score ended at 45-48 with Alleghany in the lead. Although the Wildcats didn’t end the game with a win, the progress the team made this year was very impressive.
