The Lip Sync Battle was held on Feb. 28 at 6pm in the auditorium.
This tradition, put on by the National Honor Society and Student Council Association, is a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis research.
In an interview for the Wildcat Weekly in 2023, Secretary Karen Emery spoke about the effect the fundraiser has. Emrey’’s son has Cystic Fibrosis and attended RCHS from ___ to ___.
“This money goes towards cystic fibrosis programs which have in turn used their money and the money we donate to help find and manufacture drugs to help people lead normal lives,” said Emery.
Since 2012 when it was first performed, the Lip Sync has raised upwards of 31 thousand dollars, all towards Cystic Fibrosis research.
This lip sync battle is a competition between acts to see who has the best lip syncing talent.
The results were as follows: people’s choice and first place went to the SCA sophomore class, including members Hannah Ivins, Chase Potter, Geneva Snyder, Ruby Goodhart, and Cate Wilson; second place went to the One Directioners, including members Noah Alexander, Trenten Cash, Ethan Erskine, Fisher Howald, and Thomas Jones; and third place went to the Rockbridge Ballet, including members Grace Fleshman, Lena Greer, Summer Hull, Libby Pearson, Annalee Penny, and Claire Sigler.
The SCA sophomore class’s act won first place and the grand prize.
Sophomore class president Chase Potter organized the class act.
“With all the hard work and effort we put in on such short notice we felt a little unprepared and that we did not do it to 100 percent. After seeing all the acts, we definitely thought we had lost but when it was announced that we had won first place and people’s choice, it was a jaw dropping moment for all of us,” said Potter.
The Sophomore SCA won 150 dollars which will be put into their account and saved for class events.
Second Place was taken by the One Directioners. This was a group of Junior boys who came together and performed a mashup lipsync of iconic One Direction songs. Noah Alexander was one of these lip syncing lads and had this to say about their performance.
“Winning second place felt so great because of how much time we had put into it. We met up after our sports practices every day the week before the show and rehearsed for our boy band act. We performed last year and had a great time so we thought we would do it again, especially because all the proceeds go to such a good cause,” Alexander said.
Overall the event raised just around 1,500 dollars and will continue to benefit research towards cystic fibrosis.
