Window Cheer Fills Lexington

Retailers use window displays to capture customers’ attention and bring people into their stores to buy products. Well strategized and intentional themes help draw people into stores. If customers are not able to come in at that moment, they may be more likely to remember the store by the seasonal display and come back later. Retail shops in Lexington, Va. have pulled out all the stops this year with their window displays. While they are designed to bring foot traffic into their stores, they have also helped to create a festive mood in town. Pumpkin seeds on the corner of MainStreet and Washington Street has a window display with bright-colored pom poms to bring the holiday to their storefront.

Siobhan Deeds is a co-owner of Pumpkin seeds.

“We wanted to create a happy, nostalgic display to make people feel good about what was a rather difficult year,” said Deeds.

While some merchants purchase or rent window display kits to promote their store, Pumpkinseeds, Hess & Co., and University Florist all create their own displays based on particular themes, seasons, and products they have for sale.

Caitlin Carter is an employee of Hess and Co. Jewelers.

“Hess & Co. Jewelers tries to create a classic, elegant Christmas display to go with the elegant jewelry we sell in our store,” said Carter.

Another store that has joined in on the holiday festivities at their store is Sugar Maple Trading Co. They have a holiday window display that matches the icicle lights hanging from their front awning. The display includes lots of crystal dishes, plates, bowls, and shiny objects that rotate to draw attention to the store.

The holiday season being a letdown this year has motivated stores to bring their own holiday cheer to share with their customers. There is no doubt that the holiday spirit has filled the streets of Lexington, Va.
