The boys’ basketball team (4-2) started off this season with a new coach and a drive to strengthen the team.

David Miller, the new assistant coach, has coached basketball as both a head and assistant coach, however he hasn’t been an assistant coach for many years.

“It’s a little different, not being head coach, it’s fun,” said Miller. “You get to do a lot of things you don’t normally get to do as head coach. I’m enjoying it. I haven’t been an assistant coach for over 20 years.”

While the season has just started, Miller already has his goals for the team figured out.

“We just started, so I really want to see the boys get better each game and each week, and the number one goal is just that they enjoy themselves and have fun,” said Miller.

The head coach, Darrell Plogger, is excited to have Miller back on the team and hopes it will have a positive effect on the athletes.

“I don’t think we’ll miss a beat,” said Plogger. “He’s always keeping it light and keeping the guys laughing, so that’s a good thing.

Plogger is confident in the team and plans to have a strong season.

“I think we’ve got a good mix of senior leadership and young guys coming in,” said Plogger. “I think by the end of the year we’ll do really good.”

Senior guard Nathan Bailey shares a similar outlook on the team, and think the addition of Miller will help to strengthen the team.

“This should be a rebuilding year,” said Bailey. “The different coaching styles and new support coming in will really help us out.”

Bailey hopes these factors, along with the support of his teammates, will help him achieve his personal goal of working even better with his teammates.

“Together as a team, our chemistry is pretty good,” said Bailey. “All the guys are close, and we’ve been together for a while, so we definitely have  high hopes for this year.”
