National Honors Society Hosts Halloween Fair

Every year, National Honors Society (NHS) hosts an annual Halloween fair to raise money for their Christmas Basket Event hosted at the Rockbridge Horse Center in December. This year, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is assisting NHS with the event; students may also volunteer to lend an extra hand. The fair is open to anyone who wishes to attend on Oct. 29th at Rockbridge County High School. There are lots of activities such as haunted halls for all age groups, door trick or treating, games, a temporary tattoo station, purchasable home baked goods, and a costume contest.

Senior and NHS Vice President Abigail Brooks has a major part of the planning process and has been organizing the change in structure of the event from a previously outdoor and now indoor Halloween Fair.

“Because of COVID-19 last year, the event was hosted outside the high school and visitors were able to trunk or treat, but now we are moving the event back indoors as it was before the pandemic,” said Brooks.

Replacing trunk or treat is the more traditional and much anticipated door to door trick or treating. NHS students will decorate classroom doors for the holiday and hand out candy to those who come by.

Though the main purpose of the event is to raise money for the Christmas Basket Program, there are more benefits than fundraising.

“I am really excited for the Halloween Fair this year, it is a safe and family friendly event that allows everyone in the community to have a good time and get some candy,” said Brooks.
