The year is split up into four seasons; winter, spring, summer, and autumn (fall). They are often characterized by weather and sunlight patterns. Many people have gained preferences on which is their favorite, influenced by factors like school, weather, fashion, and overall “vibe”.
According to poll results from The Prowler, students concluded that fall is overall the most popular and “best” season, while winter is generally the least liked.
The least liked season is winter. This is because not many people find the cold particularly favorable. I was surprised by this, as I think winter is a great season because of the holidays and the snow. Those who chose winter as their favorite season believe it’s easier to stay warm in winter, whereas there’s only so much you can do to cool off in summer.
It’s fun to snuggle up in blankets, and the season feels cozy and relaxing. It’s nice to be with loved ones and stay warm inside by a fire with hot cocoa, while it’s icy and snowy outside. Winter is also a special season because the New Year falls during this time, and there is a long winter break from school.
However, there are some downsides to winter. It gets dark really early, which may cause people to feel more tired and less motivated. While cold weather can be enjoyable for some, it also makes one more prone to illnesses, colds, and dry skin. On the bright side, winter brings the advantage of fewer pesky bugs, which is desirable.
Overall, winters last because its upsides simply don’t compare to the upsides of other seasons. Without the added fun from holidays, the season itself doesn’t have much to offer other than constant harsh weather, and dullness. While these things make it enjoyable for some, most people prefer balanced traits of other seasons over winter’s harshness.
The third-ranked season was spring. Many people find this season “fake” or may just overlook it compared to fall. This is my personal favorite, and I think it was underrated because the holidays in this season are fun, the colors are pretty, and the weather, in my opinion, is the best. Those who like it, enjoy its feeling of growth and life. Especially compared to winter’s darkness and hopelessness, this is a breath of fresh air and rebirth.
Spring is nice because the flowers start blooming and things come back to life from the dark slumber of winter. It gets warmer, and the days become longer, increasing productivity. It anticipates summer, and school break. The colors are bright and fun. The holidays are cute and loving. Rain feels cleansing, and it’s a time for new chances and motivations. You can bring in a new wardrobe full of fun colors, and you can wear shorts or pants because the weather is very balanced.
However, some find that the brightness and “fun” of spring feels fake and not authentic. While its holidays are fun and loving, holidays like St. Patrick’s Day and Easter are controversial and don’t mean as much to people as holidays like Christmas or Halloween, which feel like holiday seasons.. The growth of new plants also increases allergies throughout the year and bugs.
This season is fun in theory, but a lot of its comforts come with downsides to them. The flowers bring bugs, and the colors feel fake, and the warmth limits the styling choices. Despite this, it’s still a good season that’s comparatively better than winter because of its natural comfort and increased day productivity.
The runner-up for the best season was Summer. This is because everyone is on summer break; they feel beautiful, and the long days and warmth bring happiness and comfort. I think this is an amazing season, and its ranking is great. Those who picked this as their favorite liked its fun, independent and “worry-free” nature. Some also argue that it is easier to cool down than to warm up in cold weather.
Summer is fun, hot, and refreshing. This season doesn’t have many holidays, but it makes up for it with fun vacations and activities you can’t do at other times of the year, such as swimming. It gives you the freedom to choose what you want to do, like go on vacation or spend time with your friends. It’s often romanticized, which makes it highly anticipated and increases the desire to become the best version of yourself and make it enjoyable. The longer days make the season feel happier and more productive. Summer storms make summer more dramatic. It’s the perfect time to self-improve before the new school year rolls in.
Summer can be overhyped, and this leads to feeling pressured to make it perfect rather than embracing it. The weather can be too hot, and the bugs, humidity, and allergies cause discomfort for many people. The Fourth of July is a fun and festive holiday, but like spring, it lacks the “holiday feel” that others have. The long days can be exhausting, and sleeping in can lead to problems when you near the start of school.
Summer is a fun and “worry-free” season that feels like a movie. It gives people the independence to do what they want and have fun doing various activities. It frees time to focus on your own hobbies and goals without the pressure of school. For some, it may be too extreme and overwhelming. But overall it’s a happy season, where the weather influences the mood of people positively .
The best and most popular season is fall, or autumn. This is because the weather is balanced: not too cold and not too hot. This surprised me, for I feel like fall is still too cold, and shortening days decrease my productivity, but the holidays in this season are some of the best. Those who choose fall as their favorite tend to like the colors and “vibe” of the seasons changing.
Fall is nice because it’s “sweater weather,” where people can show off their cute outfits. The leaves turn pretty colors, and it marks the transition clearly from bright, happy summer to cold winter. It has many of the same desirable traits of winter but without the harsh weather, making it a happy medium. It beats spring due to its “aesthetic” fashion and its holidays. It’s referred to as “spooky season,” and has the same long holiday spirit that Christmas gets. It’s another romanticized season with ideas of fires, snuggling in cozy blankets and sweaters all with loved ones near you. The bugs and allergies are going away, and days get shorter.
Autumn does still have downsides. Like winter, its shortening days decrease productivity and motivation, but because it is a slower transition, it’s not as bad as winter and may even help people go to bed sooner. Bugs are gone, but some still persist, such as stinkbugs. You may notice some bugs just hiding inside your house now. Fall is also spider mating season. Leaves turning red are pretty until they are all gone and the trees are bare. While Thanksgiving is a wholesome holiday, Halloween has little meaning to it. It’s also flu season.
Fall places first in this ranking due to the balance of meaningful holidays, balanced weather, gorgeous scenery, and overall “hype” and aesthetics. It’s the most balanced of the four seasons and gives people the freedom of creativity in what activities to do and things to wear due to it being the transition between two bolder seasons. The color palette is more realistic compared to others, and there are two fun”holiday season” holidays occurring in this season that include food, friends, and family. Despite there being the fewest school breaks during his season, it’s still the most popular, gaining over half the votes.
