On Oct. 31, Sir Sean Connery died at the age of 90 due to old age. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his estate in the Bahamas. The actor was suffering from dementia for the last couple of months and was feeling “unwell for some time” according to the BBC.

Connery was most famous for his portrayal of the British spy James Bond. He starred in seven of the Bond films, including Dr. No, Goldfinger, and Thunderball. After this famous role, he continued to work as an actor. He starred in the classic mob movie The Untouchables in 1987 and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He later starred in the third film of the Indiana Jones movies in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade according to IMDb. 

Before stardom, Connery worked an array of jobs. According to the BBC, he joined the Royal Navy at age 16 but was discharged after three years due to stomach ulcers. Back home, in Fountain Bridge, Scotland, Connery took numerous labor intensive jobs, including shoveling coal and laying bricks. He even posed at the local art school as a model. Due to his muscular physique, his gym mates were impressed and nominated him for the Mr. Universe contest. He only competed for a few years before he changed directions for an acting career.

Connery´s career gave him famous roles and awards along with it. He was awarded a Kennedy Center Honor for Lifetime Achievement award in 1999 and was knighted  in 2000 by the Queen of England. His last award was in 2006 for a American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award. After his long career, he moved to the Bahamas and became involved with environmental protections there. 

He lived there for the rest of his life until his death. He is survived by one son, Jason Connery, and his second wife Micheline Roquebrune.
