Holidate Review

Holidate Review

On Oct. 28, a new holiday movie was released on Netflix called “Holidate”. Holidate is a romantic comedy starring Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey. The cast includes other well-known stars such as Jessica Capshaw, Cynthy Wu, and Kristin Chenworth according to IMDb. Holidate was directed by John Whitesell, according to IMDb, who is most known for the Big Mommas movies and Malibu’s Most Wanted.

This holiday movie is not like the ones seen on Hallmark. Slone, played by Emma Roberts, has just been broken up with and has no one to spend the holidays with. While at Christmas dinner, her Aunt Susan, played by Kristin Chenworth, brings her “holidate.” A holidate is where you find a date strictly for the holidays. Later at the mall, she meets Jackson, played by Luke Bracet, who becomes her holidate for the next year, with no strings attached.  They vow to stay holidates until further notice. They continue to spend every holiday together, even Mothers Day, Cinco de Mayo, and St. Patrick’s Day.  Throughout the next year, they never had romantic feelings for each other until Jackson blew his finger off playing with fireworks on July 4.

There is lots of tension after they had a spark on July 4. When they go to a Halloween party together and go back to Sloanes apartment, she quickly pushes him out the next morning, which leads Jackson to be confused and angry.  At Thanksgiving, they argue throughout the store and he storms off. After not talking for weeks, they see each other at the mall and reunite, like the usual ending for romantic comedies. Overall, I am glad that I took the time to sit down and watch this movie. It was very entertaining and had a good mix of romance and comedy. The story line was very entertaining and keeps you on edge about what will happen next.
