The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two Review

The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two

The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two

To get in the holiday spirit, I watched The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two. The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two aired on Netflix on Nov. 25 as a sequel to The Christmas Chronicles that was released in 2018. Both movies were directed by Chris Columbus who has also directed Harry Potter movies, the Night of the Museum movies, and the Home Alone movies, according to IMDb. This movie is for a younger audience, so it was not as enjoyable as I thought it would be.

I do not think that this movie lives up to its original movie. The story line drags on and is not interesting. It has the usual antagonist, Belsnickel (Julian Dennison), who tries to ruin and get rid of Christmas. The heros, Santa (Kurt Russell), Mrs. Claus (Goldie Hawn), Jack (Jahzir Bruno), and Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) prevent him from ruining Christmas. Of course, Belsnickel does not succeed in trying to ruin Christmas because Santa and the kids saved the day. It was the same idea of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The movie was a creative idea, but it was not all that enjoyable. It was childish and predictable.  The most entertaining part of the movie was when people randomly broke out into song throughout the movie. Most younger children would have liked this since it is intended for children four to nine, not necessarily for teenagers or adults. Tyrese Gibson, who was assigned the role of Claire Pierce’s boyfriend, did not get much screen time for being such a famous actor. The one good thing about the movie is how well Kurt Russell portrays Santa. He has the sweet, mythical-man vibe that allowed him to play the role well.

I was excited when I heard The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two was coming out, but I was disappointed in how it turned out. I think that they could have made a story line other than the regular antagonist stealing or ruining Christmas. It was very basic and predictable. Overall, the movie could have had a more creative plot with more action.
