The volleyball program is excited for experienced new coach, Amanda McCoy. McCoy has also joined the special education staff as a biology, earth science, and English 10 teacher. She has eight years of experience as a high school head coach, coaching at both William Byrd and Liberty High School.

McCoy is in her sixth year as a head coach and executive board member of Next Revolution Volleyball, a club out of the Roanoke area.

McCoy has experience as a player as well as a coach.

“As a player I was part of the 2000 State Championship team for William Byrd High School. After school I was able to play volleyball as a Division III athlete, earning several conference honors,” said McCoy.

She sees a lot in her team and looks forward to developing their style of playing.

“This team has a lot of potential, we just have to continue to work at it. We are working towards a more faster tempo and current style of volleyball,” said McCoy.

McCoy has big plans for expanding her team. She wants the number of girls on the team to continue to grow from 21 players she has this season.

“I would also love to incorporate some of our boys into managerial positions and possibly a practice team for our ladies,” said McCoy.

To improve the team, she is working each day on developing each girl’s basic skills in each position. McCoy hopes to see players who can play multiple positions and be independent on the court.

“Several things we try to do each day are serving, passing and blocking, which, are areas we need to be consistent in,” said McCoy.
