Golf vs. Lord Botetourt

On March 17, the RCHS Varsity Golf team faced Lord Botetourt at Lexington Country Club for their third match of the season. Lord Botetourt won with a team total of 292 points while the ‘Cats followed with a total of 326 points. 

Senior Garret Huffman led the ‘Cats with a score of 72, and Sophomore Paul Russell followed with a score of 79. Senior John Shomo had his best round of the season with a score of 86, and Sophomore Sofia Vargas followed with a score of 89. Junior Kendall Nye finished with a score of 91, Cole Boler-Pinkham with a score of 95, and Abby Brooks with a score of 103. 

The golf team celebrated their seniors, Garret Huffman and John Shomo.

“It was a fun time celebrating our seniors. We played against tough competition but I think we played pretty well and gave it a good run,” said Vargas.

Two future Wildcats, eighth-graders Jack Jensen and Andrew McCoy joined the team during the match. Coach Miller says that both have a “bright future” and that he “looks forward to having them on the team in the fall.” 

The team competed on the nineteenth against Waynesboro and will go onto their district match this week on Wednesday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Shenvalee Golf Club.
