The volleyball team defeated Broadway on Thursday, Oct. 19 after straight sets 25-12, 25-20, 25-20. The victory fell on “Dig Pink” night, where players and referees wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The ‘Cats took the first set by a large margin thanks in part to Graceon Armstrong’s two kills and two blocks. This was Armstrong’s first match after suffering an injury.

After losing numerous points at the beginning of the set,  the ‘Cats recovered from a 7-2 deficit with a 9-1 run. The rest of the set was closely contested, as the ‘Cat’s held a narrow lead until the end. Set three went to the ‘Cats after they established a nine-point lead late in the set.

The ‘Cats’ front-runners included Kennedy Clemmer with 24 digs, Jayden Clemmer with 8 kills and 20 digs, and Keely Doyle with 9 kills and 2 aces.

Doyle expressed the significance of their victory on “Dig Pink” night.

“I think that, to all of us, playing on Breast Cancer Awareness Night really puts more emotion behind the game and ignites the fire behind our want to win,” said Doyle. “It feels great to win on a night like tonight.”

The match against Broadway was the second-to-last contest of the ‘Cats’ season, and brings their record to 14-3.
