The Hallmark Channel is a TV channel that specializes in feel-good holiday movies that all have the same ending. The female protagonist falls in love with the male protagonist, and they go through a crazy journey until they share a heartwarming kiss at the very end. There is also another piece of Hallmark movies that always stays the same: exclusively hetrosexual and white lead characters. The channel features little cultural diversity, fluidity of genders, or anything other than hetrosexuality. On social media some fans of the Hallmark channel write this off and say that is not the case. They make the case that the Hallmark channel is nothing more than an environment for clean, well-meaning movies that do not feature violence or any sexual actions. However, others disagree with this reasoning.

According to USA Today, there is one group who has been a more prominent supporter of the Hallmark Channel than the rest. A group called One Million Moms has been pressuring the Hallmark channel to keep their content the same through the years. Recently, the Hallmark Channel put out an advertisement for a new movie about a lesbian couple. In the trailer there is a scene of the couple kissing at their wedding. This ad sparked backlash with viewers of the Hallmark channel, and it especially did not go over well with One Million Moms. The group pressured the Hallmark channel, and the movie was eventually scrapped from the channel entirely. However, after backlash from the LGBTQ+ movement, Hallmark reversed its decision and started airing the ad again.

Hallmark has been on the move to be more inclusive of all demographics For example, it recently began directing a new movie called “The Christmas House,” a movie starring two homosexual men. Another proggressive step for the Hallmark channel is their new movie about a Jewish character celebrating Hanukkah. Followers of the Hallmark channel’s diversity news are hoping for it to be more progressive in the future and that they come to the realization that all demographics have something to offer
