Virtual reality is a new concept that technology has recently embraced. At the top of this new market is the Oculus Quest 2. The Oculus is a virtual reality headset that comes with hand controls to play and experience many games. According to the Oculus site, the Oculus Quest starts at $299 for a 64GB headset. The second Oculus Quest starts at $399 for the 256GB headset. Is the headset worth the price? During the holiday season, my family got an Oculus, so I was excited to try it out.

To start operating the Quest, you have to clear a circular area of five feet of space to move around. When I put the headset on for the first time, I instantly noticed the remarkable quality and clarity of the graphics. The Oculus’ home screen varies each time but you are put in a random mansion with a floating control center. The control center is the hub of your account, the settings, and your game library.

After trying out the Oculus for the first time, my siblings and I decided which games would be best to get. Thankfully, many games on the Oculus provide demos so that you can see what you like before buying anything. We got Beat Saber, Superhot, and Vader Immortal. By far, Vader Immortal is the best investment if you are into StarWars. When playing, you truly feel like you are experiencing everything you see in the movies. The action, quality, and sound makes the game addictive. You get to fly ships, be in the star destroyer, fight enemies, and use lightsabers. Beat Saber is a fun game where you are given two lightsabers, and you slice blocks in certain directions to the beat of a song. It is quite the workout when going up levels. Superhot is a game where you have to defeat animated men in a high-speed fight against one another. Not only are games available like these , but there are also apps for working out and learning new things.

When on the Oculus, time flies. Financially, the con to the quest is the fact that you have to pay money for most of the interactive games. The Oculus games usually run from about $20 to $40 each. Money can start piling up when wanting to play on the Oculus. Apps like Netflix and Youtube are free, which are really unique in a virtual reality setting. Even though money starts stacking up, the Oculus Quest is a truly novel experience that is worth the money. If you want a tech gadget like nothing before, get the Oculus. You can watch, interact, and workout with a simple headset and two controllers.
