Set to release on May 29 of this year, the upcoming “Backrooms” movie will be of the science fiction horror genre and produced by A24. It is directed by Kane Parsons, the creator of the “Backrooms” YouTube series, and written by Will Soodik.

Inspired by the popular internet phenomenon called “The Backrooms,” the movie itself will feature the story of a therapist who searches for a missing patient. It will likely contain winding mazes and chases by “entities,” mysterious and often violent inhabitants of The Backrooms themselves, events prevalent in the source media.

This movie will not be the first adaptation of The Backrooms idea. Many video games, such as “The Backrooms: 1998,” “Pools,” or even the comical “Shrek in The Backrooms” on Roblox, and Kane Parsons’ TV series itself have taken a hand at interpreting the haunting story of these liminal spaces. Liminal spaces, the backbone of The Backrooms, represent a transitional period in an inanimate room, often being associated with nostalgia or a haunting eeriness.

Overall, with the release of the trailer and the closeness it has to the original source media, hopes for an exciting movie are high.
