The most recent blood drive took place on Friday, March 13. It was run by the Red Cross and the Nurse Aide class here at RCHS.
Heather Higgins is the Nurse Aide teacher here at RCHS and her students who take the class help with the blood drive.
“Taking the class is very helpful for these nursing students when assisting and understanding everything that goes into the blood drive,” Higgins said.
Braelyn Polly is a year two Nurse Aide student and has helped with the blood drive.
“As a Nurse Aide student I was able to walk students back to class after they gave blood,” Polly said.
Abigail Harding is a year two Nurse Aide student who has given blood this year at previous blood drives.
“I was able to give blood in October and it was nice being able to give back to help others, ” Harding said.
Many students and teachers sign up to donate their blood in order to help others.
“It has gone well; there has been a significant amount of people who have given their blood,” Higgins said.
Not only has Polly helped with the blood drive, she has also participated in it.
“I was able to give blood this year back in October and it made me feel very useful,” Polly said.
Although giving blood can be a scary thing to participate in, it is very rewarding too.
“I was very scared to give blood because I have given blood before and I passed out but this time went very smoothly and I was happy to be able to do it,” Harding said.
When taking or giving blood, there is a certain way in which everything has to be done in order for it to play out smoothly and correctly.
“There’s a system in place that has worked well in the past with minor problems or issues,” Higgins said.
The next blood drive will take place on Thursday, April 2 and you can contact Jessica Crance in room 118 to sign up.
