Prom season has officially arrived, and behind every carefully curated decoration and custom playlist is the Junior Class Student Council Association (SCA) working hard to make prom night unforgettable. The Junior Class SCA is tasked with planning prom, coordinating each and every detail to ensure the event runs smoothly. Prom will be hosted at Evans Hall on Saturday, April 18 from 7p.m. to 11p.m..
Junior class president Chase Potter plays a key role in overseeing the planning process.
“My role is making sure that everything is up to date, going smoothly, and according to plan,” Potter said.
While each council member is assigned specific tasks with deadlines, Potter handles tasks of his own.
“I myself have some tasks like making the prom playlist and getting all the decorations,” Potter said.
In previous years, members of the junior class have been excused the Friday before the dance to decorate the venue. The council will not have the full Friday to decorate Evans Hall due to another event, therefore they must complete the second half of decorating on Saturday morning. According to Potter, they will “still get Friday to assemble all the decor.”
While logistics play a massive part in organizing the event, choosing a prom theme was another crucial step in the planning process. The council pitched several ideas before narrowing it down to two options, “The Great Gatsby” and Lex Vegas, ultimately selecting Lex Vegas.
“The talent show was Gatsby themed and we thought Lex Vegas better suited for what we wanted to do,” junior class treasurer Pat Looney said.
Looney then went on to share his own personal opinions on the theme.
“I really like the theme, and I think it will be a fun challenge to decorate for it,” Looney said.
The council shared the theme on March 20 by creating an announcement video featured on the morning announcements. Their video can be watched in this episode of the Wildcat Weekly.
Junior Geneva Snyder is a member of the Executive Council, but has stepped up to assist the junior class in planning prom.
“My favorite step so far was creating the prom theme announcement video, because we got to be creative, it was fun to film together, and I enjoyed seeing people’s reactions to the theme and the video,” Snyder said.
Prom is more than just decorations and a DJ, it takes teamwork, creativity, and coordination. The Junior Class SCA is tirelessly working to make prom night a night to remember.
