Meet Robert Winfield

Meet Robert Winfield; the new face for the Varsity Boys basketball team. Mr. Winfield was an assistant coach at Rockbridge last 2020-2021 season. Mr. Winfield is a teacher at Maury River Middle School and has a background in basketball. 

Winfield is facing “This is my 2nd year working for Rockbridge County Schools.  I work at Maury River Middle School as a business education teacher.  Last year I was the Junior Varsity Basketball Coach and assistant Varsity Basketball Coach. I love working in Rockbridge County Schools.  I feel the leadership from the top down is exceptional,” said Winfield. Winfield also mentions the support at Maury River, “The peers I have at Maury River are beyond helpful and welcoming as a new teacher.  Basketball has always been a part of my life.  I love the game… Teaching, Coaching and watching.  I cannot wait to get the team back in the gym to have a normal and successful 2021-2022 season,” says Winfield.

 When asked about his background with basketball, Winfield adds, “I played college basketball at Roanoke College.  I coached 4 years at Carson-Newman College as a graduate assistant and then an assistant basketball coach.  I was the J.V. and Assistant Basketball Coach for the shortened Rockbridge High School Basketball Season last year.” 

When starting with a new team, there are many foundations to be laid. Mr. Winfield said, “Our goal year 1 is to establish an identity for the program moving forward. ‘Brick 1’ Focus on Energy, Encouragement, and Excitement on and off the basketball court. We have a lot of talented basketball players in Rockbridge County and I am excited for the opportunity to work with them. The 2021-2022 Wildcat basketball team will establish the first brick in a successful foundation for all the future success we expect to achieve moving forward.”
