RCHS Wrestling

Eleanor Dare, Sports Editor

RCHS sports have returned, basketball, academic team, swim and dive, and wrestling have all started their seasons. For wrestling, it was a little different. Normally, they would have regular one-on-one meets, but due to the timing of the season, the ‘Cats had to go to districts right off the bat. With only a few weeks to prepare, the ‘Cats were able to beat both Parry McCluer and Grace Christian. Some sports like basketball had more time to prepare, with conditioning days and scrimmages. The wrestlers were  at a disadvantage. Some of the boys struggled to meet the weight requirement and were forced to move up a weight class. The scores project how well these boys were able to do, Parry McCluer 51-15 and Grace Christian 49-12.

The wrestling coach Aaron Bruce said he was “extremely proud of my wrestlers.”

“The guys are working hard and are ready to see what they can do. Don’t count them out,” said Bruce.

The rest of the meet dates are to be decided however the ‘Cats competed at districts last Saturday. Results are listed down below. The wrestlers will continue to practice. Barring any cancellations, the wrestlers should have at least a month left of competing.

“They are a tough group of guys,” said Bruce.
