All of Rockbridge’s Varsity and Junior Varsity cross country teams raced this past Saturday, Sept. 24, at Alleghany High School.

The Varsity girls came in second, due to a heartbreaking tie-breaker within the scoring system. Though their average time was faster, they accumulated less points from placing than the first-place Christiansburg team.

Junior Nicky Black put up a great seventh-place finish in the score for the Wildcats.

“All in all, it was a pretty good race,” said Black, “We look forward to improving as the season continues.”

The varsity girls finished strong in second place, with two individuals finishing in the top ten. Junior Deena Ludke put up the highest finish for the Wildcats, as she came in sixth, with fellow Junior Nicky Black right behind.

The varsity boys did not have as strong of a meet, but still came out with a promising tenth place finish. Their highest placer, Senior Andrew Brannon, chipped in 24 points toward the team score with his 26th place finish out of 152.

Albemarle High School will host the Wildcats for their next meet on Oct. 8.
