The varsity volleyball team hosted Harrisonburg High School for Senior Night festivities Oct. 16. This marked a milestone for the volleyball program as libero Nala Shearer, outside hitter Sophia Perlozzo, outside hitter Sophie Vaught, middle blocker Maddie Dahl, and setter Mckenzie Burch played their second to last regular season game at home.

This senior class combined for three regular season district titles, three district tournament titles, and three regional playoff appearances. They will be looking to add to this number in the coming weeks. Along with these team achievements, there have been numerous individual awards. However, the team put these distractions to the side and defeated Harrisonburg 3-0.

The Wildcats started off the first set by claiming a 10-2 lead. Harrisonburg weathered the storm and made it a 5 point deficit before the Wildcats ran away. The Wildcats had been practicing serve receive in practice and were able to translate it to the first set. They captured momentum by winning 6 points in a row. This set ended with a 25-17 victory.

The next set was also a strong performance. Dahl had four aces in a row to set the tone immediately. This set was never in doubt as the Wildcats controlled a commanding lead throughout. Set two ended with a 25-11 score.

The third set wrapped up the match. Sophomore defensive specialist Ava Crocker had a strong showing with lots of digs. Vaught also contributed with strong playing from the outside. The third set saw the Wildcats take a 25-7 victory.

It was a night to remember as the storied senior class was celebrated. Vaught reflected on the special night.

“It was special to walk out all together, especially since we have been playing together for so long,” said Vaught.

The team now has a record of 21-1. The playoffs continue with the regional playoffs kicking off at home Oct. 31.
