Feb. 11, 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs faced the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Chiefs defeated the 49ers in overtime by a score of 22-19. Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, was awarded Super Bowl MVP. Aside from all the football statistics and news, there is plenty of non-sports related news surrounding the game’s outcome.
The biggest non-sport related news surrounding the super bowl, is the involvement of popstar, Taylor Swift. Being one of the most famous singers in the world, news tends to follow her everywhere she goes. It just so happens that news followed her to Kansas City, and as of September 2023, she has been dating NFL superstar, Travis Kelce. This new relationship has caught the attention of many sports and Swift fans around the country. And with how much publicity and attention is being given, people are tending to dislike and throw shade upon their relationship. Not only the relationship, but especially superstar tight end, Travis Kelce, has taken a ton of heat from the media recently.
In sporting events, with the high adrenaline and competitiveness, things can get heated. Travis Kelce got into a dispute with head coach, Andy Reid. Kelce got right up into Reid’s face and almost threw a punch. Many people in the national media are furious with Kelce. This action is inexcusable and shouldn’t be tolerated in sports. With this action, Kelce’s public image has certainly gone down. It doesn’t help Kelce (and the Chiefs in general) that they’re so successful and keep on winning. The Chiefs have been dominant over the last six years, so people tend to disapprove of the team.
With their win, the Chiefs are the first back to back Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots. Additionally, the Chiefs have appeared in 4 of the last 5 Super Bowls, with wins in three of them. It’s safe to say that a new dynasty has been formed in the NFL. The Chiefs offense is one of the best in the league, led by the dynamic duo of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. This duo is arguably the face of the league, with Kelce and Mahomes being the most recognizable players in the NFL.
Over the past few years the NFL has gone through significant change. With this Super Bowl, it’s easy to see that a new era is here. Icons such as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Rob Gronowski, and Odell Beckham Jr. have made way for Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs are a new dynasty, a team that will likely be Super Bowl favorites for years to come, and a team that finds new ways to keep winning.
