With the football games and the school pep rally, the color guard team is tossing away on the field. Color guard is a group that uses flags to perform with the marching band. The color guard and marching band have their practices on Tuesday through Thursday at 3:45-5:30 p.m. to prepare for the games.
Junior Rachel Burke is the captain of the RCHS color guard team. This is Burke’s third year seeing the color guard grow and become closer since her freshman year.
“The color guard here is pretty close with each other, but even color guard as a whole is really close and supportive,” Burke said.
Color guard is a team that works together and learns from each other. They will be spending a lot of this season with one another forming friendships, creating close bonds, having fun, and making memorable moments.
“I want the team to look back on this time in their lives and remember how fun it was, like I know I will,” Burke said.
The color guard will be competing alongside the marching band at their competition Oct. 22 at the Salem Civic Center and Oct. 25 at William Byrd High School for the Blue Ridge Festival of Bands.
