The 2025-2026 swim season is beginning this winter. Last year, the boys swim team made it all the way to the state tournament, placing sixth with a score of 116. They are led by head coach Erica Bisaillan.
The swim team has produced impressive talent over the years, such as senior Keagan Black who is signed by VMI continuing his swimming career. Black has been swimming since the first grade, and enjoys the feeling of achievement after a close race. He shares his hopes for this season.
“I hope this season for the team to be competitive on a regional stage along with seeing the new or underclassmen get better from week to week,” said Black.
Black specializes in the backstroke with a time of 52.05 seconds in the 100 and 1:53.32 minutes in the 200. Black is ranked 77th in Virginia.
Leisl Neibur is a sophomore, and this is her second year swimming for RCHS swim team.
“My favorite part of swimming is traveling to our meets because it is so much fun to cheer on my teammates and compete against other swimmers,” said Niebur.
Sophomore, Emil Hierman is starting his second year on the swim team. He shared his favorite events.
“My favorite events are the long distance events such as the 200 and 500 freestyle. I also really enjoy doing 100 backstroke.” said Hierman
Hierman swam a 29.72 50 free last year and is hoping for more improvement this year.
Both the girls and the boys are hoping for another successful season and trip to states.
