The boys soccer season started on Feb. 23. Last year was their first season with their coach, Jeff Tomlin. Their overall score for their season was 1-15 overall and 0-14 in the region.
This year is the boys soccer second year with Coach Tomlin. Tomlin shares his goals for the team this season.
“My goal this season is to continue building a program that our players are proud to be playing for. In terms of play, the goal is to compete for a district championship until the end of the season,” Tomlin said.
So far, the boys soccer team has had two scrimmages against Amherst and Heritage and one away game against Wilson Memorial. They lost both scrimmages after fighting hard and _[game results]_. Tomlin shares the difference that he sees in his players this year.
“One difference I see in this year’s team compared to last year’s is our ability to battle through more adversity. In our two scrimmages, after being scored on once, we recovered and fought back. Despite losing both scrimmages, I am really proud of the guys for continuing to play hard even after going down a goal,” Tomlin said.
Senior Noah Alexander plays center midfield and is a captain alongside junior Jonathan Roy. Alexander talks about what he is excited for this season.
“It’s definitely going a bit better than last year because we are playing better as a team this year. I’m excited for all the games this year,” Alexander said.
This year is the first year in the new district. Originally, Rockbridge was in the Valley District and this year RCHS is in the Shenandoah District. Alexander talks about his goals for games and postseason.
“I think we have a better chance to win this year with the new district and might be able to progress to regions by playing better at districts,” Alexander said.
Looking towards the end of the season, all home games will be played at Southern Virginia University (SVU) after May 5 due to the RCHS field getting turf. Senior night will also be held at SVU on May 19.
The Wildcats next game is on March 27 at Staunton High school, with JV playing at 5:30 p.m. and varsity playing at 7 p.m. Their first home game will be against Waynesboro on March 31.
