On Sunday, Dec. 7, come support the RCHS PTSA and SCA at the Holiday Market and start, or finish, your holiday shopping!. The event runs from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Rockbridge County High School. Entry is free, but bring money to shop from local vendors and participate in raffles.
There are a variety of vendors attending, including those selling homemade bakery items, wreaths, flowers, handmade clay earrings, and much more. The event also features activities such as making your own Christmas cards, pictures with Santa and Santa Claws (who is the Wildcat), raffles, and various prizes. The RCHS band will also be performing at this event as well.
SCA advisorJessica Crance and is helping plan for the event. She explains what the raffles were and what activities were present at the event.
“Each vendor is asked to donate an item to be included in a raffle where anyone coming to shop can participate. We also had Santa and Santa Claws, the wildcat dressed as Santa, and live music,” Crance said.
Crance then explains what this event will help raise funds for.
“This event is being sponsored to help raise funds for the PTSA. The PTSA supports the SCA throughout the year with various events. They also give a scholarship, fund teacher wishlists, and provide meals as needed,” Crance said.
Kasey Potter is one of the main organizers of the event and is the head of the PTSA. She explains why members of the community should come out and support this event.
“I’m not sure there is an event quite like this. Our vendors will have everything from homemade bread, fresh flowers, crocheted items, candles, earrings, wood carvings. We’ve also booked a food truck, a hot chocolate trailer and maybe donuts! You’ll be able to start or finish your Christmas shopping here!” Potter said.
Unity 4 Kids is a 501c3 nonprofit that serves to connect communities to those who are less fortunate, are in poverty, or may be going through a crisis. Potter then explains what other activities will be at the event for people to participate in.
“The Band will be playing Christmas music! We will have an area set up asking people to make Christmas cards, we will hand those over to Unity 4 Kids,” Potter said.
Potter lastly explains the progression of the event through the past two years.
“I’ve been told there used to be an event like this in the past. I just brought this event last year and it was kind of last minute. This year we have planned ahead. An event on social media was created early, posters were designed and hung up all over the community.,” Potter said
This is the second year this event has taken place, and the organizers are hoping to continue to grow every year. All funds will go to the PTSA to help support SCA throughout the year at various events, such as Homecoming and Prom, and to help fund teacher wish lists.
Come support the PTSA and get into the holiday spirit at this festive community event! For more information, look at the RCHS SCA Facebook or Instagram or contact the PTSA at [email protected] .
