“Bridgerton,” a Netflix original TV show, first premiered in December 2020. The show follows the Bridgerton family, a wealthy family living in London in the Regency-era. Each season follows a different sibling and their love story. The fourth, and most recent, season of the show concluded in February, and online there are many debates over the best season. I have watched this show since it premiered, so I decided to rank my favorite seasons.
- Season 4
In last place, I chose Season 4. This is the most recent season, and it followed Benedict, the second oldest son. After meeting a woman in a silver dress at a masquerade ball, Benedict has a “Cinderella” love story trying to find this woman. The woman in a silver dress was a maid named Sophie Baek. Benedict meets Sophie Baek and falls in love with her, unknown to the fact that she was the woman in the silver dress. The season follows the struggle of their love story between the elite class and the working class. Although I love Benedict and his goofiness, this season fell short for me. It felt like it dragged on, and Benedict and Sophia went back and forth so much that it became annoying.
- Season 3
I chose Season 3 for my third favorite season. Although many people say that this is the worst season, I still enjoyed it more than season 4. This season follows the “friends to lovers” love story of Colin Bridgerton, the third oldest Bridgerton son, and Penelope Feartherington, the Bridgerton’s neighbor and long-time family friend. The beginning of the season follows their shift from friends to lovers, and the second half of the season follows the conflict of Penelope’s secret role as Lady Whistledown, a gossip author. I enjoyed this season, but it is not my favorite compared to the other seasons. Additionally, the costume and makeup of this season received a lot of critiques online, and I agree that it was distracting.
- Season 1
In second place, I chose the debut season of Bridgerton. This season follows Daphne, the oldest daughter, and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. Daphne and Simon use a fake dating scheme in order to draw attention and sponsors for Daphne. When this “fake” courtship leads to real feelings, the relationship gets complicated. I love the light hearted relationship between Daphne and Simon, and I love the many other storylines happening this season. This was a great first season for the show, and I love it.
1. Season 2
Season 2 is my favorite “Bridgerton” season. This season follows Anthony Bridgerton, the oldest son, and Kate Sharma. At the beginning of the season, Anthony is only looking for a wife to fulfill his duty. He chooses Edwina Sharma, and during their engagement, Anthony begins to fall in love with her sister, Kate. These two are originally enemies, and Kate does not support Anthony and Edwina. Their “enemies-to-lovers” story is very captivating, and I love both of these characters. This is easily the best season, with the best tension and climax building of all of the seasons.
Overall, “Bridgerton” has many great seasons with unique plotlines and characters for each.
