Movie Recap on “The Pigeon People”

“The Pigeon People” is a documentary about pigeon racing. As silly as it might sound it is something people do for a living. Pigeon racing is where your pigeons, you breed and raise, are taken to a location from 100 to 400 miles away and are released. At that point, whoever gets their first bird back the fastest wins. For the wandering pigeons, there are rescued birds to collect the wandering pigeons that are just flying around.

This film takes place in Arizona where we are first introduced to Bob French. He explains what pigeon racing is and about, then we are introduced to the rest of the club members.

We are shown how the birds are bred and how they are trained to come back home. The pigeon breeding center looks like a little motel for the birds. Training them can take two to three weeks, but the first release of them can decide if you’re going to do good or not.

The big race is 350 miles over the grand canyon and the group is nervous because most of the time they dont get all their birds back. After the race ends they all get together having a barbecue and congratulating each other. After all the results get in, it’s announced that Bob wins.

What makes this documentary so interesting and great; it is about racing pigeons. The

Pigeon People has a nine and a half stars rating. Pigeon races do not just take place in Arizona, there are many places around the world that do pigeon racing too.

This hobby could become pretty expensive with time and money, but there are two ways you can get money back, selling pigeons and winning races. The highest pigeon ever sold was 1.9 million US dollars. Normally a pigeon that has been specially bred can go for $2,800. Then winning races can get up to $100,000 depending on the race.
