Senior Degsteen Afful went to governor’s school for agriculture this summer at Virginia Tech. Afful had plans to become an engineer, but once she discovered the types of programs that governors’ school for agriculture offered, she found an interest in agriculture.

“They had bio systems engineering and environmental engineering, and I thought it sounded cool” said Afful.

According to Afful, classes at governor’s school were different from the classes at RCHS.

Although the classes were long, Afful enjoyed learning new things, such as how to 3-D print, how to cite an APA style, and how to operate drones. She also performed a lot of experiments with milk.

“3-D printing was my favorite. I could design and print whatever I wanted,” said Afful” “Instead of buying phone cases and jewelry, I could just make a model and print it out.”

Afful hopes to continue agriculture and engineering in the future.
