McCain and Bradley Takeover Latin

Juniors Caroline McCain and Charlie Mayock Bradley went to Latin governer’s school at Randolph-Macon College over the summer. McCain has been taking Latin since she was in the seventh grade, and Bradley’s interest in Latin began five years ago when he was in the sixth grade. With Bradley’s father, Pat, being the Latin teacher here at school, Bradley has always been inspired to take Latin.

“I guess I’ve just always been exposed to it (Latin) and I’ve always wanted to take it,” said Bradley.

“It was really fun to experience Gov School with Caroline and we’re even closer friends now because of it,” said Bradley.

Both students agreed that governor’s school was very different from regular school.

According to McCain, governors’ school had six different Latin classes and two of them focused on art history. None of them really focused on grammar, unlike the Latin program at RCHS.

“We had classes but they weren’t high pressure; we never had any tests,” said Bradley.

Bradley also described governor’s school as “a mixture of school and summer camp.”

What Bradley and McCain enjoyed about governor’s school the most was the opportunity to make new friends.

“I got to meet people from all over Virginia who had similar interests as me,” said Bradley.

Both students enjoyed governor’s school and both students plan to study Latin in college.
