The Program of Studies at Rockbridge County High School has many Career Technical programs that allow students to follow an education path that suits their future interests. One program in particular that has driven students to success is Engineering.

The goal of this program is to provide students with the knowledge and technical skills for a diversity of engineering jobs. Within this program, students are given access to CAD (computer aided drawing); this allows them to apply core math skills with design, and 3D printers. This program is divided into two separate courses, Engineering I and Engineering II, on completion of these two courses students will receive two CTE (Career Technical Education) credits along with program completion certificate.

Sophomore Luke Eversole has been in the engineering program for two years. Eversole would like to be an engineer in the future.

“I have gained hands-on experience working with Mechanical, Hydraulic, and electrical engineering,” said Eversole.

He hopes the experiences from this program allow him to select a career path that fits his interest.

“I hope to go to a good engineering college like Virginia Tech or Georgia Tech, ”said Eversole.

Fellow Engineering student and Sophomore Quincy Speers said, “I have learned a lot about what it takes to be a good worker in the workplace.”

Speers said he heard about the class through friends and thought it would be fun.

Speers says he would like to apply his engineering skills to help fix things around his house

“I know a lot about myself now, I can use my information to do things around my house,” said Speers.

Students can register for this course for next year with their school counselor. For more information about this course, contact at James Gerken
