In the music scene of Virginia, singer-songwriter Ian Vest is gaining recognition for his heartfelt performances and musical approach. Most recently, Vest showcased his talent at Lexington’s Sky Bar on April 11th, impressing attendees with his original music and engaging stage presence.

Vest’s musical journey, as he called it, began with a lifelong passion. “

I have sang and played music all my life but only in the past couple years decided to start playing live shows,” said Vest.

The recent transition into live performances marks a significant turning point in his artistic pursuits. He describes this shift as what led him to perform across various places in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and even abroad in Ireland.

Vest reflects on his approach to kick-starting his music career.

“I simply started reaching out to venues via Facebook and email, politely asking for performance opportunities,” said Vest.

This not only expanded his reach but also deepened his understanding of the industry.

“You have to be authentic,” said Vest. “Perform, write, and release music that reflects your true style.”

This dedication to self-expression is noticeable in his performances, each song filled with emotion. At Sky Bar, Vest’s performance left a lasting impact on the audience, featuring his original songs. Despite his newcomer status in the music scene, Vest’s music resonated deeply with those in attendance.

Angelica Mejia, manager of Sky Bar, recounts his performance.

“Ian Vest performed for us on April 11. Following his debut in December 2023, we arranged a solo event with him,” said Mejia. Despite a modest turnout, Vest’s performance was well-received, particularly when he dedicated a song to his wife and unborn child, adding a personal touch to the night. Vest expressed satisfaction with his experience at Sky Bar, noting the positive atmosphere.

“The night at Sky Bar went really well,” said Vest. He had expressed interest in future performances at the venue.

Vest offered advice to aspiring musicians.

“The key is to never give up! Pursue your dreams relentlessly,” said Vest. His dedication creates a lasting impact on audiences.

Alyssa Hunter, Reporter
This is junior Alyssa Hunter’s first year as a reporter  with the Prowler staff. She is usually sitting somewhere reading a book or sketching. Art could be considered her longtime passion, and something she has done since she was a child. Though most of her year is typically uneventful, when it is the right season she can be found on the lacrosse field, practicing for her position as goalie. One of her favorite things to do is talk to her friends who live in different states, and spend time with the ones close by. She hopes to make the most of her remaining two years at RCHS.
