8th Period is a structured academic support time for students who need to catch up on classwork, make up missed assignments, or simply want extra help from staff. It’s held every week from 3:30 to 5:40, Tuesday through Thursday in the RCHS library.
Heath Glass, Chris Ghallagher, Gabriella Richards, and Ruth Brunner are all working and officiating 8th period.
Currently, Biology teachers Richards and Brunner are leading a biology study group for Spanish-speaking students. Fluent Spanish speaking tutors from both Washington and Lee and SVU have agreed to help out. Tutors are working one on one and in small groups with students to help them understand and review what is going on in class.
“Our Biology course includes over 480 vocabulary words throughout the year, so it’s really important that students get to practice those terms in their first language while also reinforcing them in English. The goal is to build confidence and deepen understanding of the material in both languages,” Richards said.

8th Period is welcome to anyone and everyone who wants extra time to do homework and/or get tutoring from knowledgeable adults.
If you are interested, but are worried about a ride home, the school provides a bus at 5:45, so that all students have a way home.
