As winter break steadily approaches, students are becoming more and more ready to log out from Canvas and treat every day as if it’s the weekend. After months of continuous deadlines, emails, and assignments, the thought of a break has never seemed more appealing.
In a Google Form sent out to the student body asking how ready they are for winter break, 89% responded that they were ‘very ready.’ Only 9% of students answered saying they were ‘somewhat ready,’ and 2% of students felt they were ‘neutral’ towards the approaching break. Although given the option to respond ‘somewhat unready’ and ‘not ready,’ not a single student responded in this way.

Students such as freshman Braedyn Fink hope to spend their winter break at home, playing games with friends, and hanging out with their family.
“I am mostly looking forward to getting a break from school and getting to see people I don’t get to see at school,” Fink said.
Others plan to use their break as a time to travel. Freshman Ruth Smith plans to make the most of her break by traveling to Washington DC, attending a hockey game, and visiting her grandparents in Vermont.
“In Vermont, hopefully it’ll be snowing and I’ll get to enjoy that. Mostly, I’m just going to spend as much time as I can with my grandparents. I usually only see them once or twice a year, because they live so far away,” Smith said.
In comparison to Smith’s busy break, junior Joshua Hughes is eager to do nothing over the holiday season.
“By doing nothing I mean sleeping, playing video games, and not really communicating to anyone outside of my home,” Hughes said.
Hughes explains how he hopes to take a break from reality.
“During school I am always doing something, such as studying, homework for AP classes, and after school activities. I want to do nothing of value, and just take a break from the real world,” Hughes said.
Whether students are looking forward to holiday travels or simply excited to relax in the comfort of their own homes, it is clear that the student body is ready for a break.
Winter break will officially begin on Dec. 19 and will last until Jan. 6.
