After winter break the counseling office has one thing on their minds; scheduling. The scheduling process is a long and complicated one that keeps the counselors occupied until late summer.

Counselor Michelle Kirby describes her role in the scheduling process,
“I am in charge of putting together Curriculum Nights for the teachers to show what the courses are involved with. The other counselors and I go into the English classes and meet with students to talk about their options for next year and what they need to take in terms of classes. We then meet with students individually to talk about their post high school plans and what classes they need to take here to help them accomplish that,” Kirby said.
Creating schedules for the students takes a while to complete.
“It takes about a month to meet with students individually, then we go to the middle schools to meet with those students. At Rockbridge we start with the rising seniors to give them priority on class picks then we move down to the lower grades. Hopefully by the end of February the initial schedules will be set and mailed out home,” Kirby said.
Every year there are a couple of new classes offered at RCHS. Kirby then describes the new classes offered at RCHS,
“There are a lot of new classes including an agrobusiness management class, business marketing, intro to foundations of business and marketing, social media marketing, sports marketing, and sports management,” Kirby said.
The RCHS counseling office is excited to introduce new classes and opportunities for students and are open to questions about schedules and information.
Sophomore Marshall Clements speaks on what new class excites him the most.
“I did not know we had a sports marketing class, and that seems like something that I would really enjoy taking,” Clements said.
RCHS curriculum will see a change next year in classes which will certainly excite students. Counselors are very excited to introduce students to the new curriculum and to create schedules that will satisfy everyone’s needs.
